geography

course

The source is located about 700 m west-northwest of Oberholzhausen, a district of the municipality of Haina (monastery) . The stream, which has a very steep bottom slope in its upper course, initially flows 800 m in an easterly direction, crosses under Kreisstraße 99 north of Oberholzhausen, and then turns sharply to the south. Now it flows from Oberholzhausen, always along the K 99, 1.5 km to the southeast and then 1.1 km to the south to Hof Nieder-Holzhausen. There it bends, still accompanied by the K 99 on the left bank, to the southeast, crosses under the L 3077 after about 800 m between Nieder-Holzhausen and Lehnhausen, and after another 1.2 km reaches Lehnhausen . Then it flows, for a total of 1.3 km, past the Bernsmühle and the small hamlet of Holzbach. There it turns to the east and flows 2.6 km, always on the north side of the K 99, past the hammer mill and the hammer mill to the urban area of Gemünden.

muzzle

During the construction of the Wohratalbahn from Gemünden to Kirchhain , the bed of the Holzbach was lowered about 150 m south of the Gemündener train station in 1913/14 in order to be guided under the embankment. This meant that the Holzbach had to cross under the western arm of the Schweinfe, the Mühlbach, into which it had previously flowed. Since the lowering, it now flows about 80 m further east into the lower parallel arm of the Schweinfe. The Mühlbach has since crossed the Holzbach via the Schweinfe aqueduct, which was built at the time .
