Oberholzhausen is the westernmost part of the municipality of Haina (monastery) in the northern Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

The village lies on the upper reaches of the Holzbach in the northeastern part of the castle forest . Neighboring towns are Willersdorf in the northwest, Mohnhausen in the northeast and Lehnhausen in the southeast.

Oberholzhausen was first mentioned in 1215.

On July 1, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , the then independent municipality of Oberholzhausen voluntarily formed the new municipality of Haina / Kloster (spelling at that time) together with five other places . For upper Holzhausen one as for the other districts local district with the town council and mayor set up. The district of Haina / Kloster was designated as the administrative seat.
