Neighboring towns are Römershausen in the northwest, Bockendorf in the southeast and Oberholzhausen in the southwest.

history

The small village was first mentioned in 1144.

The construction of the railway, which began before the First World War , and the possible connection to the great railway world with the Kellerwaldbahn, which was extended in this context, came to an abrupt end with the end of the lost war.

On July 1, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , the then independent municipality of Mohnhausen voluntarily formed the new municipality of Haina / Kloster (spelling at that time) together with five other places . For Mohnhausen, as for the other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up. The district of Haina / Kloster was designated as the administrative seat.

Culture and infrastructure

There is a village community center in the village .

The Protestant half-timbered church was built in 1911 with elements of Art Nouveau . It replaced the dilapidated old church .
