Wächtering is a church village and part of the town of Rain in Bavaria in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries . In the same district the places Wächtering, Hausen are (also called Hauserhof), wood mill, Nördling and Strauppen.

Geography and traffic

Wächtering is located 10 km southeast of Rain, between the neighboring villages of Bayerdilling , Etting , Wallerdorf and Pessenburgheim . The three wastes and Nördling are west of Wächtering. To the southeast of Wächtering lies the state forest and community-free area Esterholz . The place is in a side valley of the Lower Lechrain of the Aindlinger terrace staircase . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Donau-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany .

history

The founding of Wächtering as a real -ing- place is assumed by the Bavarians in the 1st half of the 6th century . The meaning of guard ring is roughly settlement of the Wachta (clan elder ). The same applies to Nördling, which was mentioned in 1173 as Nordlingen .

Wächtering is first mentioned around 1100 as Wehteringen . In the Middle Ages, almost all of the Wächteringer farms belonged to the Counts of Scheyern and the Niederschönenfeld monastery , as well as a knight, Berchtold Schönlein von Schönleinsberg (who later also sold his entire property to Niederschönenfeld). From 1600 on, the only landlords to appear were the Niederschönenfeld Monastery (which had bought most of the Scheyerner and Wittelsbacher Höfe including Nördling and Strauppen), the electoral caste office Rain, the Rainer Almosenstiftung and the Counts of Sandizell and Barons of Gumppenberg .

The Catholic branch church Sankt Albanus in Wächtering has always belonged to the parish of Sankt Michael in Bayerdilling . It was built in 1872; the substructure of the tower dates from 1400, the tower corner and spire are from around 1700.
The pilgrimage chapel Sankt Leonhard in Nördling dates from the beginning of the 18th century. It contains horseshoes and votive pictures.

The independent municipality of Wächtering belonged to the district of Neuburg an der Donau until July 1, 1972 and was added to the district of Donau-Ries as part of the regional reform in Bavaria , which was called the district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth until May 1, 1973 . It consisted of the municipal parts Wächtering, Hausen , Holzmühle , Nördling and Strauppen and on May 27, 1970 had 149 inhabitants. On January 1, 1975, it was incorporated into the city of Rain.
