LG Electronics [ ɛlˈdʒɪː ɪlekˈtɹɒnɪks ] is a company from South Korea with headquarters in Seoul . It is a subsidiary of the LG Group .
history
Goldstar Co., Ltd. was founded in 1958 (subsidiary of Lucky Chemical Industrial Co.) and produces radio receivers, televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and vacuum cleaners. In 1995 Goldstar was renamed LG Electronics, LG being the abbreviation for Lucky GoldStar . The name LGe is also often found , where the e stands for electronics . The current company logo was supplemented by the added backronym L ife’s G ood . The group offers products from the fields of information technology , entertainment electronics , mobile communications , photovoltaics and household appliances .
LG Electronics was the world market leader in cell phones based on the CDMA2000 standard, which was sometimes used in America, parts of Africa and Asia . The subsidiary LG Display is the second largest manufacturer of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) after Samsung . LG is also the market leader in the field of CD-ROM drives.
LG Electronics is the third largest home appliance manufacturer in the world after Whirlpool Corporation and Electrolux .
In 2014, LG Electronics received a Big Brother Award for the inadmissible and non-deactivatable retransmission of user data to the company using “smart” televisions .
LG Mobile (cell phones)
Since 2004 the company has been trying to position itself on the European mobile phone market.
In December 2006, LG announced the KE850 touchscreen mobile phone , which can be seen as a competitor to the Apple iPhone , which was announced the following January .

The LG G2 was presented in 2013 and scored points with the so-called “Rear Key” buttons on the back instead of the usual side buttons on smartphones, which should achieve better and easier operation. The G2 is the successor to the Optimus G and has a 5.2-inch display, which, with 1920 × 1080 pixels, has a pixel density of 424 ppi and a surface area of 75.9%. Its successor, in turn, is the LG G4, which was launched in early June 2015.
At the beginning of 2016, the LG G5 was presented at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona, together with so-called LG Friends , optional accessories: a Bluetooth headset, a hi-fi module, a camera grip with an integrated battery, a 360-degree camera; VR glasses that can be connected to the smartphone via USB-C; a Sphero-like surveillance robot with a camera and an action cam.
LG Home Entertainment (TV / Audio / Video)
LG Electronics Home Entertainment is a manufacturer of screens, in the year 2000 still in tube technology and meanwhile of flat screens and AV products for end users and business customers. The product range includes OLED , LED / LCD and plasma televisions , home theater systems, Blu-ray players as well as audio and video players.

LG Home Appliances
LG produces home appliances such as refrigerators , washers and dryers , vacuum cleaners , kitchen appliances and air conditioners . In June 2014, LG announced the launch of smart devices with the HomeChat messaging service for Korea. This app supports the Korean chat service Naver , so that device owners can chat with each other and share content, but also control their devices via their mobile phones. In 1995 LG took a stake in the American television manufacturer Zenith Electronics Corporation , which was then taken over entirely in 1999.
In South Korea, LG Electronics operates the LCD manufacturer LG Display , which was founded in 1999 as a joint venture with the Dutch company Philips as LG.Philips LCD . The company was renamed when Philips sold the majority of its shares in 2008.
A company called Hitachi-LG Data Storage was founded together with Hitachi . It makes optical drives.
LG is one of the first supporters of the FIDO alliance , which has been developing the Universal Second Factor (U2F) industry standard for generally applicable two-factor authentication since 2013 .
