Homosexuality is increasingly being discussed publicly in Panama and LGBT rights are recognized.

Homosexual acts have been legal in Panama since 2008 . The age of consent is uniformly 18 years. Legislation that protects homosexual or trans * people from discrimination in public or in the workplace is currently being discussed in parliament in Panama.

Recognition of same-sex couples

There is no recognition of same-sex marriages , and registered partnerships are not allowed. A bill to legalize registered partnerships for same-sex couples failed in 2004.

Social situation

There is only a small LGBT community in the capital, Panama City . The organization Asociación de Hombres y Mujeres Nuevos de Panamá (AHMNP) campaigns for the rights of LGBT people in the country. In 2005 the first demonstration for the rights of homosexual people took place in the capital.
