Hongyuan
The county Hong Yuan ( Chinese 红原县 , pinyin Hóngyuán Xiàn ) is located in the administrative territory of the Autonomous District Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang in the northern Chinese province of Sichuan , People's Republic of China . Its main town is the large community Qiongxi (邛 溪镇). It has an area of 8,398 square kilometers and has a population of 44,588 (2011).

History of Hongyuan County Town
Traditionally, apart from a few Buddhist monasteries, the Hongyuan area was largely populated by nomadic people. From June 1935 to August 1936, the Red Army passed the Hongyuan highlands on the Long March . Since the 1950s there has been a military base on the site of today's county seat, which gradually brought about the settlement of (Han Chinese) businesses. Hongyuan County was established in 1960. The name ("Red Plain") was given by Zhou Enlai in memory of the long march. In recent years there have been an increasing number of programs to build permanent homes for the shepherd population.
