Hoofdklasse (chess) 1979/80
In the Hoofdklasse 1979/80 the 57th Dutch team championship in chess was played.
The defending champion Volmac Rotterdam , the Eindhovense SV and Desisco / Watergraafsmeer fought a three-way battle for the title. After 6 of 9 rounds Desisco / WGM was at the top with 2 team points, but defeats against their direct competitors threw them back to third place. The title was decided by the direct comparison between Rotterdam and Eindhoven in the last round, and the defending champion achieved a 5-5 championship. Philidor Leiden and MEMO had moved up from class 1 . Both newcomers achieved relegation, while Charlois / Europoort and VHS had to relegate.

The competitions were held on September 22, October 13, November 3, December 8, 1979, January 5, February 2, March 1 and 29 and April 26, 1980.
