Hoofdklasse (chess) 1980/81
In the Hoofdklasse 1980/81 the 58th Dutch team championship in chess was played.
The defending champions Volmac Rotterdam and Desisco / Watergraafsmeer fought head-to-head for the title. Rotterdam won the direct comparison, but since they tied two draws while Desisco / WGM won all other competitions, the points on the board decided on the awarding of the title, and here the Amsterdam team got the upper hand. CVI / Utrecht and Leidsch Schaakgenootschap had moved up from class 1 . While Utrecht managed to stay in the league, Leiden had to relegate together with last year's second Eindhovense SV .

The competitions were held on September 20, October 11, November 1, December 6, 1980, January 10, February 7, March 7, April 4 and May 2, 1981.
