The newly promoted Utrecht and Rotterdam fought head-to-head for the title. Before the last round, Rotterdam was in the lead, with a narrow victory in a direct comparison Utrecht won the championship. In addition to Utrecht, Leidsch Schaakgenootschap was promoted from class 1 and had to relegate straight away. Since the class was increased to ten teams for the coming season, only the bottom of the table rose this time. For the team cadres see team cadre of the Hoofd class (chess) 1970/71 .
