Horst Dietrich

Horst Dietrich (born February 14, 1935 in Hamburg ; † July 25, 2014 in Stenderup ) was a German painter and founder of the factory culture and communication center .

Life

Dietrich was the son of a pharmacist in Hamburg-Ottensen. During the Second World War he was evacuated with his mother and sister to Bäckerwitz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ; his father died in the war. After a broken locksmith apprenticeship, he studied from 1958 to 1961 at the Alsterdamm Art School in Hamburg with Gerd FG Setzke. He studied a. a. together with FK Waechter and Uwe Bremer . He later worked as a painter and commercial artist temporarily in Sweden and Denmark. He exhibits in Copenhagen and Aarhus. In Hamburg he had exhibitions in the Bauzentrum, as well as group exhibitions in the Museum of Art and Industry and also in the Kunstverein in Hamburg . He had his last art exhibition in 1973. On June 25, 1971, together with the architect Friedhelm Zeuner , he founded the factory culture and communication center in a 150-year-old former Prussian ammunition factory in Hamburg-Ottensen . The project became a pioneer for a Europe-wide movement of communication centers. For several years, Dietrich also ran a discotheque in Kiel . In the north of Schleswig-Holstein, he also operated the Schleihalle and a restaurant as well as another restaurant in Flensburg and the old cinema in Rendsburg. Dietrich, who headed the factory as managing director from 1971 to 2012 and founded the factory foundation in 2006 to support the factory, was the recipient of the Max Brewer Prize in 1993 .

Dietrich was married to Katharina Vogt, had two daughters and a son and most recently lived in Stenderup near Kappeln an der Schlei on a rest yard.
