Life

At the age of 11, Horst Fischer came to the trumpet and two years later enrolled in the violin major and trumpet and piano minor subjects at the Army Music School in Frankfurt / Main. Presumably in connection with their destruction by bombing raids, after only a short stay he switched to the Bückeburg Army Music School , where Roy Etzel and James Last also received their training. He was in Bückeburg until the end of the war in 1945, after which he switched to the Zschopau Orchestra School . On June 3, 1945, his trumpet was stolen there by Soviet soldiers, along with other instruments. Then he attended the music school "Stadtpfeife" in Burgstädt . Fischer left school without a degree in 1947 because of an engagement with the Ernst Knauth dance orchestra in Chemnitz and made guest appearances in American clubs in Heidelberg, among others. In 1948 Fischer was discovered by Karl Walter for his dance band. In the summer of 1949 Kurt Henkels recruited him for the Leipzig Radio Dance Orchestra . 1951 Fischer was hired by Erwin Lehn to join the Südfunk in Stuttgart. Fischer gave guest appearances with Kurt Edelhagen , Werner Müller , Willy Berking as well as the dance and entertainment orchestra Radio Zurich and went on a concert tour to Japan. His “trademark” was the title Ciribiribin with a final cadence up to f3.

"Hackl" Fischer was one of the best German trumpeters. His cadences up to a flat 3 and a flat 4 in Erwin Lehn's “Western Blues” are remarkable. He played trumpets with a perinet valve and, particularly in his early years , the long American-style cornet . In 1959, Fischer received the "Golden Trumpet" for over 1 million records sold. He lived in Switzerland until 1977, later in southern Germany and moved to Bergisch Gladbach -Paffrath in 1981. He later lived in Langenfeld (Rhineland) and in the Bergisch Gladbach district of Refrath . He died in 1986, scarred by alcohol, impoverished and forgotten by the music world in the neighboring hospitals in Cologne-Merheim . One of his trumpets has been in the Bad Säckingen Trumpet Museum since spring 2004. His grave is in the cemetery in the Adelsberg district of Chemnitz and was difficult to find until July 2006 without a stone or plaque.

aftermath

In May 1995, a homage to Horst Fischer took place in Chemnitz as part of the “Chemnitzer Köpf” series. The flyer for the event was headed: "Horst Fischer - a tragically drowned millionaire". In September 2005 an interest group set itself the goal of providing a dignified grave and erected a memorial stone on July 8, 2006. On June 9, 2007, a memorial concert took place on the occasion of Horst Fischer's 77th birthday under the title Swing'in Adelsberg - Horst Fischer und seine Zeit . At a concert under the same title on June 7, 2008, Günter Gollasch played alongside the big band Meerane . On June 6th, 2009, the big band of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Chemnitz under the direction of Rolf von Nordenskjöld played in memory of Horst Fischer - including ciribiribin in a contemporary arrangement.

In the meantime, two CDs with recordings by Horst Fischer from his swing and entertainment music days have been reissued.

On April 21, 2010 , the City Council of Chemnitz approved the application of the interest group Horst Fischer Chemnitz-Adelsberg to name the street after Horst Fischer in a newly developed residential area in Chemnitz-Adelsberg . The inauguration took place on September 21, 2010.
