Horst Peter (* 16th February 1937 in Kassel , † 23 September 2012 ) was a SPD - politician and educator and co-editor of spw - Journal of socialist politics and business .

Life

Horst Peter was a member of the German Bundestag from the 9th to 12th electoral term (1980–1994) as a directly elected candidate for the constituency of Kassel . From the mid-1980s until 1994 he was the spokesman for the SPD left in the so-called Frankfurter Kreis . From 1993 his role as a contact person (KP "Kirchner") of the State Security of the GDR was discussed, that is, as one of those people who tried to instrumentalize without their knowledge. According to the 2013 BStU , the unknowingly skimmed “Kirchner” cannot be assigned to a specific member of parliament. After his voluntary resignation from the German Bundestag in 1994 he worked again as director of studies and head of politics and was head of the Hessian State Institute for Education (HeLP) until his retirement in 2000 . Most recently, Horst Peter became more involved with BUND and was spokesman for the board of BUND Kassel until 2008.

Services

Horst Peter achieved great merits in bringing together leftist currents in the SPD since the mid-1980s in the course of the creation of the SPD's basic program in Berlin , which was adopted in 1989. In 1994 Horst Peter joined the editorship of the spw - magazine for socialist politics and economy - together with Peter von Oertzen , Detlev von Larcher , Edelgard Bulmahn and Christel Riemann-Hanewinckel .

In addition to his work as the SPD spokesman in the petitions committee of the German Bundestag, Horst Peter was committed to more citizen participation and forms of direct democracy. In writings and lectures, he also promoted the concept of sustainability as a counter-model to neoliberal social and economic policy (see Peter et al. 2011).
