Horst Remane (2018)

Horst Remane (born May 29, 1941 in Lauchhammer ; † December 21, 2018 in Leipzig ) was a German science historian and chemist .

Life

Remane studied chemistry at the University of Leipzig . In 1966 he completed his diploma, after which he was assistant and senior assistant at the chemistry section of the University of Leipzig. In 1970 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. doctorate , in 1978 he completed his habilitation. From 1980 he was senior assistant for chemical history at the Karl Sudhoff Institute for the history of medicine and natural sciences at the University of Leipzig. At times he studied at the cabinet for the history of chemistry at the Lomonosov University in Moscow. In 1987 he was appointed professor for the history of natural sciences at the University of Education in Halle . Since 1993 he has worked in the same position at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , where he was appointed associate professor in 2004. In the 1993 summer semester, Remane completed a working semester at the University of California and the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia . Remane was a member of the Collaborative Research Center 482 ("Weimar-Jena incident, culture around 1800").

Since 2012 he has been a corresponding member of the Académie internationale d'histoire des sciences . Remane was among other things the author of numerous articles ("Milestones of Chemistry") in the Nachrichten aus der Chemie , the membership journal of the Society of German Chemists on the history of chemistry.
