The Peter Huber Kältemaschinenbau AG , based in the industrial area Elgersweier in Offenburg is a German manufacturer of temperature control for applications in research and industry. The products are used to control the temperature of scientific experimental setups, laboratory devices or industrial production systems via a liquid circuit , with temperatures from −125 to +425 ° C being achieved.
history
The company was founded in 1968 by Peter Huber as one of the first master craftsmen in the refrigeration system construction trade. In the beginning, the company's founder's residential and commercial building in Elgersweier served as the company's headquarters. In 1997, administration, development and production moved into a new company building in the industrial area of the Offenburg district of Elgersweier. The so-called "Tango Factory" has been the company's headquarters ever since.
After graduating as a refrigeration master, the founder specialized in the development and manufacture of environmentally friendly refrigeration machines. In 1982 Huber presented the first cooling thermostats (also called cryostats ) with automatic cooling capacity adjustment and with water-saving energy management. In 1993, the company switched to CFC- free refrigeration machines. Most Huber products have been available with natural refrigerants since 2005 and meet the requirements of the global greenhouse policy (K6 directive) of Hoffmann-La Roche AG.
Huber has been awarded the “Top 100 Innovator” seal of approval several times. The competition organized by compamedia, in cooperation with the Vienna University of Economics and Business, determines the innovative capacity of medium-sized companies in Germany. In 2018, Huber was named “ Innovator of the Year ” in the size class of over 200 employees.
Products
The company produces temperature control devices for use in laboratories , technical centers and production . The products are used, for example, to control the temperature of research structures or to carry out temperature-dependent material and material tests. The devices reach temperatures from −125 to +425 ° C with an accuracy of 1/100 ° C and are used in numerous industrial sectors, e.g. B. in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotech, automotive, semiconductors, building materials, cosmetics, food, fuels as well as for the aerospace industry. The most common areas of application include process engineering systems in the chemical industry , e.g. B. double-walled reaction vessels for chemical syntheses . The company supplies special equipment for many applications. The product range includes dynamic temperature control systems (Unistats) as well as circulation coolers (Unichiller, Minichiller) and classic bath and circulation thermostats (Ministats, Rotostat, Variostat).
The introduction of the Unistats in 1989 brought a further improvement in liquid temperature control technology. Unistats differ from heating-cooling circulators due to their thermodynamic properties. In contrast to open bath circulation thermostats, Unistats work with a closed, hydraulically sealed liquid circuit . For thermally induced volume changes in externally closed systems, an expansion vessel replaces the conventional bath vessel. The expansion vessel is shut off to control the temperature of open baths. This principle reduces the masses to be tempered and thus increases the rate of temperature change. Due to the low internal liquid volume, Unistats achieve cooling speeds of several hundred Kelvin per hour. The technical information corresponds to DIN 12876. B. the cooling power density [watt / liter] information about the temperature control power and dynamics.
Awards
- 1986: Innovation award from the state of Baden-Württemberg (Dr.-Rudolf-Eberle-Preis) for the development of the Rotostat (workplace for rotary evaporators with a new energy concept without wastewater pollution and without wasting water).
- 2015: Inclusion in the "Lexicon of German world market leaders "
- 2016: Winner of the “ Grand Prize for Medium-Sized Enterprises ” competition organized by the Oskar Patzelt Foundation
- 2016: Environmental award for companies
- 2018: "Innovator of the year 2018" in the TOP 100 competition
structure
The family-run company is privately owned. The founder's four children are employed as board members. Company founder Peter Huber died on June 12, 2018 at the age of 77. Huber employs around 300 people (as of September 2017). Over 180 refrigeration system builders (today: mechatronics technicians for refrigeration technology ) have been trained in the company. It operates internationally with its own branches and trading partners. At the beginning of 2017, Huber took over Van der Heijden Labortechnik GmbH.
