Athletics:

The Huckenohlstadion (short: Huckenohl ) is a football and athletics stadium in the city of Menden in the Sauerland. It is located on Oesberner Weg between the districts of Zentrum, Rauherfeld, Horlecke, Lendringsen and Oesbern . The stadium can seat 6300 spectators. It is the home of the BSV Menden and the LG Menden .

The stadium facilities

The entire area around the Huckenohl Stadium is 16,000 square meters. The actual stadium has a grandstand on each of the two long sides. The stadium has 1,500 seats and 3,600 standing places in the main stand, as well as a further 1,200 standing places in the opposite stand. The total capacity is therefore 6300 spectators. There are no covered spaces.

The stadium has a grass pitch (105 m × 72 m), a tartan track with six circular tracks and other athletic facilities such as a discus throwing ring, a shot put, a high, pole vault and long jump facility, as well as a moat for an obstacle course. Another shot put facility is located on a side square. The tartan track was completely renewed in summer 2005. There is also another soccer field on the stadium grounds, which is located above the main square and has had an artificial turf surface since October 2008. There is also a gymnastics hall, a shooting range and a multifunctional room on the premises, as well as the clubhouse of the BSV Menden. Six escape light poles have been erected in the stadium, and more are on the artificial turf pitch and on the shot put pitch. The stadium has two large parking spaces - one on Oesberner Weg, another at the Eichelberg company on Balver Straße.

Competitions in the stadium

Stadium record holder Thomas Wessinghage

The BSV Menden plays its state league games in the Huckenohl Stadium, as do the youth teams of the BSV that play across the board. In the winter months, all games are played on the artificial turf side court, which was inaugurated at the end of October 2008, above the grass field, on which the rest of the BSV youth division plays all year round.

The stadium also serves as a training and competition venue for the LG Menden . The track and field athletes hold numerous competitions in the stadium. The last supraregional championships were the Westphalian Youth Championships in 2003. Before that, in 1999 the Westphalian Long Distance Championships were held here. On May 17, 2007 the Westphalia and North Rhine finals of the German age group team championships also took place here. In May 2008, the German champions over the 10,000 meter distance were determined in Huckenohl.

In the past - especially in the 1970s and 80s - top international athletes achieved excellent results in Menden. In particular, the medium and long-distance races as well as the sprint distance races attracted many good athletes to the Huckenohl Stadium. The men's stadium records over 2000 meters (5: 01.0 min) and 3000 meters (7: 53.94 min) have been held by Thomas Wessinghage , German Olympic participant and German record holder over 1500 meters, since 1983 . The 100-meter runner Dirk Schweisfurth ( TV Wattenscheid 01 Athletics ) achieved one of his best performances of his career here in 1990 with 10.2 seconds and also holds the stadium record to this day. Only five days later, Dirk Schweisfurth ran another time of 10.45 s over the 100 meters in Huckenohl. The fastest 200 meters in the stadium's history were achieved by the two Olympic medalists Carl Kaufmann and Franz-Peter Hofmeister , who both ran half the stadium lap in 20.9 seconds. In 2002, the Japanese Hisashi Miyazaki sprinted the 200 meters in 21.15 s and thus also belongs to the stadium record list.

The Menden-born Olympian Silvia Hollmann (OSC Thier Dortmund) holds the stadium record over 400 meter hurdles for women. In 1980 it ran for 57.5 s in the Huckenohl. Sigrid Wulsch ran the 1000 meters in 2: 47.0 minutes in 1981 - wearing the SV Menden jersey - and is still in the stadium record list today. In 1999 Luminita Zaituc set the stadium record over 3000 meters. She completed the seven and a half laps in 8: 53.72 minutes, the personal best of the 2002 vice European champion in the marathon . In 2007, Monika Gradzki ( TV Wattenscheid ) set a new stadium record over 800 meters at a runners' evening organized by LG Menden . She ran the two rounds of the stadium in 2: 02.01 min.
