Hugo John (born January 23, 1858 in Erfurt ; † July 14, 1911 there ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur .

Life

His father Johann Adam John (born August 9, 1811 in Erfurt; † January 28, 1898), master craftsman, locksmith and ironmonger , founded the machine and sheet metal factory JA John in Ilversgehofen north of Erfurt in 1838 . Hugo John did an apprenticeship there and, with his father, developed the family business into a leading manufacturer of chimney tops , washing machines , slow burn stoves , laundry and bottle cellar machines and equipment as well as heating , ventilation and other health systems.

On July 5, 1890, he married Clara Stübgen (1872-1959). The couple had several children: Hermann (1891–1935), Johanna bew. Tailoring (1898–1990), Heinz-Hugo (1904–1944) and Wilhelm (1893–1974).

In 1902, John split the business. The engineering department he sold to the company Henry Pels & Co. (Berlin), she was as Berlin-Erfurt Maschinenfabrik Henry Pels & Co. continued. The Umformtechnik Erfurt company, which is still working at the same location today, developed from this . Hugo John died on July 14, 1911 in Erfurt.

Aftermath

After Hugo John's death, his wife and the eldest son Hermann ran the company. The name was changed again to JA John AG . In 1923, Heinz-Hugo John joined the NSDAP and, at her suggestion, entered the Reichstag in 1932 , of which he was a member until his death in June 1944. He had various functions in the Hitler Youth and fell as an officer in the Waffen SS .
