Hugo Schäffer

Hugo Schäffer (born June 13, 1875 in Edelfingen , † August 25, 1945 in Stuttgart ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Life and work

After graduation the son of a pastor took a degree in law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen in which he awarded the degree of Dr. jur. finished. During his studies he joined the Roigel student association in Tübingen .

Schäffer joined the Württemberg administration in 1902 and was promoted to government councilor in the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior in 1909, and to Ministerialrat in 1913. In 1922 he moved to Krupp as finance director and was a member of the board of directors of Friedrich Krupp AG . In 1924 he became President of the Reich Insurance Office and at the same time President of the Reich Supply Court . Schäffer did not belong to any party and served from June 6 to December 3, 1932 as Reich Labor Minister in the government led by Reich Chancellor Franz von Papen . He then acted again as President of the Reich Insurance Office and the Reich Supply Court.

During the National Socialist era , Schäffer was a member of the Association of National Socialist German Lawyers . He belonged to the Nazi student council of the Reich Insurance Office (RVA). He was co-editor of the Nazi magazine Gesundes Volk .
