Hugo von Perger

Hugo Ritter von Perger (born February 12, 1844 in Vienna ; † December 28, 1901 there ) was an Austrian chemist and university professor . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology .

Life

Hugo von Perger studied at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute as well as under Josef Redtenbacher at the University of Vienna , where he passed the teaching examination for chemistry and physics in 1866. He then taught at various secondary schools. In 1876 he went to the University of Leipzig , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

After teaching in Königsberg an der Eger and at the State Trade School in Brno , he became head of the chemical department of the State Trade School Reichenberg in 1879 . From 1887 he was head of the section for chemical trades at the Technological Trade Museum in Vienna.

In 1895 he was appointed full professor of the chemical technology of organic substances at the Vienna University of Technology. In the academic years 1897/98 and 1900/01 he was dean of the chemical-technical school until his death. In the academic year 1898/99 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology .

In 1899 he was appointed councilor .

In his scientific work he dealt among other things with the chemistry of tar colors . He also devoted himself to the development of chemistry classes in Austria.

Hugo von Perger died in 1901 at the age of 57. His father was the painter and writer Anton von Perger (1809–1876), his brother the musician Richard von Perger .
