The Humanistic Academy "Aleksander Gieysztor" in Pułtusk ( Polish Akademia Humanistyczna im. Aleksandra Gieysztora w Pułtusku ) is a private university based in the Polish city of Pułtusk , about 55 km north of Warsaw, with branches in Ciechanów and Frombork .

The university was founded on July 14, 1994 by the Academic Education and Science Society "Atena" under the name "Humanist Aleksander Gieysztor University" ( Polish: Wyższa Szkoła Humanistyczna im. Aleksandra Gieysztora ). Since 2002 it bears the name of the Polish medieval historian Aleksander Gieysztor (1916–1999), one of its founders. Adam Waldemar Koseski has held the post of Rector since 2004 .

Right from the start, the university was entitled to award the licentiate and master’s degrees, since 2001 also to award the doctorate in humanistic sciences in the field of history, and since 2002 also in political science. In 2006, the Minister of Science and Higher Education granted the university “Academy” status.

In 1999 the “Baltic Research Center” was established in the Frombork branch, which deals with the history of contacts between Mazovia and Warmia . In 2000, the Research Center of the Napoleonic era was founded.

The Institute for Anthropology and Archeology was engaged in a. with the search for the remains of Nicolaus Copernicus under the floor of the Frauenburg Cathedral . The research was crowned with success, the examination of the skull enabled the reconstruction of the astronomer's face.

On December 19, 2011, the Center for German Studies in the Fields of Language Research, Education, History and Political Science was founded. The center works closely with the East-West forum Gut Gödelitz e. V. under the direction of Axel Schmidt-Gödelitz .

The Humanistic Aleksander Gieysztor Academy is a member of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities, is also part of the European University Association and the Compostela Grupo De Universidades , and also participates in the European Union's Erasmus program .

The 750-person teaching staff includes a. Professors at the University of Warsaw and the Polish Academy of Sciences . By 2014 around 44,000 students had successfully completed their training at the university.
