IC 1256 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Hercules at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 219 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 100,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 6371 and NGC 6372 , among others .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on July 29, 1892 .
