IC 4651 is an open star cluster of the type II3m in the constellation Altar in the southern sky . IC 4651 has a diameter of 10 ' and an apparent magnitude of +6.90 mag. It is <3000 light years away from the solar system and has a diameter of about 8 to 9 light years . The cluster is a little over 1 billion years old.
The object was discovered on July 28, 1826 by James Dunlop .
