IC 4639 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 775 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6276 and NGC 6278 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on July 28, 1903 .
