IMFLUSS Festival
The Imfluss cultural festival , formerly also known as the Kulturfloss or S isch im Fluss , is a music festival that takes place annually from the end of July to mid-August on the banks of the Rhine in Basel in Switzerland .
For three weeks, 17 concerts by national and international bands and solo artists will be offered on a floating stage in the Rhine near the Mittlerer Brücke . The approximately 50,000 spectators that the festival reaches every year enjoy the free music program from the bank. The founder and organizer of Imfluss is Tino Krattiger , entrepreneur, director, architect, cultural activist, former Grand Councilor (cantonal and city parliament in Basel-Stadt) and from Kleinbasel.
Concept and music program
Right from the start, the raft has set itself the goal of promoting cultural mediation between the generations in public spaces - free of charge. In addition, it is a project with a social claim because it makes culture accessible to all people, has a mediating and communicative effect and thus creates structure and integration in public space.
Every year national as well as international artists appear on the stage in the Rhine. In recent years these have included Marla Glen , Glenn Kaiser Band , Mungo Jerry , Jamie Lidell , Edoardo Bennato , Nits , Saint Etienne , Katzenjammer , Kitty, Daisy & Lewis , Marc Storace , Vintage Trouble , Eluveitie , Boy & Bear , Dan Croll , Yasimne Hamdan , Young Fathers , Bombino , Wallis Bird , Graham Candy , Philipp Poisel , Element of Crime , Stiller Has , Patent Ochsner , Plüsch , Polo Hofer , Lovebugs , Pippo Pollina , Sens Unik , Span , Sina , George Gruntz , Natacha , Philipp Fankhauser , Bastian Baker and Ritschi .
history
In 2000 the raft anchored for the first time on the banks of the Rhine in Basel and immediately found an enthusiastic audience. With the success and the increasing Mediterraneanization of the banks of the Rhine, a heated debate about public space also arose. The changed use at that time met noise and licensing regulations of the public sector, which had not yet adapted to the new needs. The desire for peace on the one hand and the desire for culture and life in public space on the other were diametrically opposed. The raft was one of the drivers in the development of the new forms of use and it is therefore not surprising that the approval for IMFLUSS was contested by individual residents up to the federal court.
The process involved weighing up the different points of view of supporters and opponents. The opponents believed that the project itself was the reason for the noise pollution on the Rhine, while IMFLUSS argued that the interactive communication led to a calming down.
The Federal Supreme Court supported the goals and framework conditions of the festival organizers in almost all individual points. The court proceedings had the side effect that the achievements of this cultural project were recognized and appreciated at the highest judicial level in Switzerland.
