The Iberig is a 511  m high mountain of the Table Jura on the southwestern edge of the Siggenberg in the municipality of Untersiggenthal in the canton of Aargau . Part of the mountain is the Iflue , a rock face on the southwest flank.

Surname

The "I" in the name indicates the population of yew trees that still exist today on the Fluerain and the rocky edge of the Iflue, and some of which have been placed under protection. The slow-growing conifer used to be valued for its hardwood for bow weapons, because of its toxicity, especially for horses, which were previously used in forest work, but feared and often eradicated.

geology

The landscape of the Siggenthal is shaped by the Limmat river valley and the so-called moated castle , the confluence of the three rivers Aare , Reuss and Limmat . The level valley floor usually rises gently to the plateau of the Siggenberg, which drops sharply to the west on the Iflue. Although the Iflue looks like a curved fold, it is part of the Table Jura, whose range of hills the Aare breaks through here between Iflue and Bruggerberg . The edge of the Iflue is formed by Malm limestone from the Jura.

flora

The Iflue has a barren and dry soil with a thin layer of humus , a prerequisite for the occurrence of remarkable plants such as alpine mountain flax , hawkweed and limestone blue-grass . The Iflue offers bright and warm locations and sometimes extreme ecological conditions. Far away from the Alps, there is not only a mountain flora, which has its easternmost Jura occurrence, but also several types of orchids .
