Ignacio Beristain

Ignacio Beristain (born July 31, 1939 in Actopan , Veracruz , Mexico ) is a former Mexican boxer and current boxing trainer . He is considered one of the best coaches in boxing history.

Boxing career

Among the amateurs, Beristain boxed light flyweight . As a professional, he did not get many fights due to an eye injury and retired in 1959.

Coaching career

The Mexican boxing team won several medals at the Olympic Games under Beristan's leadership .

His first professional world champion was the Hall of Famer Daniel Zaragoza .

The most famous and well-known boxers that Beristan trained include the Mexican brothers Juan Manuel Márquez and Rafael Márquez , Ricardo López , Gilberto Roman and Humberto González . He also coached Óscar de la Hoya when he faced Manny Pacquiao in 2008.
