Iiro Tarkki (born July 1, 1985 in Rauma ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who was active in the Liiga for SaiPa Lappeenranta , Espoo Blues and Kärpät Oulu , among others . His brother Tuomas Tarkki is also a hockey player.

Career

Iiro Tarkki began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Lukko Rauma , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga , the top Finnish division, in the 2004/05 season . In the period from 2003 to 2006, however, the goalkeeper only played a single role as a member of Lukko Rauma's professional team. Instead he ran for Lukko's U20 juniors in the Jr. A SM-liiga and as a loan player for the Finnish U20 national team , Hermes Kokkola and Haukat in the second-rate Mestis . For the 2006/07 season he moved within the SM-liiga to SaiPa Lappeenranta , but was loaned to SaPKo Savonllina from Mestis in his first year with the new team . In the following two years he made his breakthrough in professional ice hockey as a regular goalkeeper at SaiPa.

From 2009 to 2011 Tarkki played for the Espoo Blues in the SM-liiga. He was then committed by the Anaheim Ducks from the National Hockey League , for which, however, he only completed a single game. However, he spent the entire rest of the season as a goalkeeper with their farm team Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League . For the 2012/13 season , the Finn was obliged by Salawat Yulayev Ufa from the Continental Hockey League and completed 53 KHL games for this club. After a mixed start to the season, Tarkki was dismissed in October 2013, a month later he got a job at Linköpings HC from Svenska Hockeyligan . Subsequently, he completed eleven SHL missions for Linköping before he was signed by Kärpät Oulu from the local Liiga in July 2014 .

In December 2015, he ended his career for personal reasons.

International

For Finland Tarkki took part in the 2010 World Cup, in which he remained as a substitute goalkeeper without use. He was also in his country's squad for the Euro Hockey Tour in 2009, 2010 and 2011 .
