action

In the small Berlin sauna headlocks , people meet who have long since taken real life into a headlock . The sauna is run by the siblings Nadinchen and Jost Molinski. The older brother Jost has been looking after Nadinchen since her parents died. He relieves her of everyday problems and does not notice that he is leading her into disaster. The sauna is a negative business, the siblings are heavily in debt and Nadinchen doesn't notice anything. The regular guests feel very comfortable in the small sauna and find a distance from their everyday problems there. There is Toni, the long-term unemployed, who can no longer offer his children and lives separately from his wife Karin, who also tries in the sauna to get her insurance to the man and the woman. Dani, an unemployed flight attendant, initially maintains her previous lifestyle, but in the end even asks for work in the sauna. Monika Stauffenberg lives on social welfare and is involved in an Africa aid group. She is supposed to stand in for a pregnant colleague on a one-year trip to Rwanda and then has to find out that her own friend made her colleague pregnant. The trip then falls into the water as the main sponsor is bankrupt. Finally there is the guest Norbert Reich. He writes speeches for his wife, Anja, member of the Bundestag. Norbert also propagates her neoliberal ideas in the sauna, but is confronted by the other guests with the harsh reality, which changes his political attitudes and also the speeches for his wife, who cannot understand this change, which causes the marriage to fall into crisis. Norbert would like to set up a wellness center in Brandenburg together with Jost on the green field. He is already investing the first money, but without knowing that Jost will use it to pay the current debts. Anja Reich considers the investment to be money thrown away and has an analysis of the property in Brandenburg made, which shows that investing there is nonsense. When another donor jumps out, Norbert Jost announces that the project has failed. Jost is under so much pressure that he accidentally heats up the sauna too much and Norbert dies in it. The resuscitation measures of the other guests are in vain. For Jost and Nadinchen this means the end of their dreams. The guests help to dress Norbert's body and put it in his car. But they are observed by a policewoman and then arrested. Monika takes the blame because she wants to leave the country anyway. She can convince the police that Norbert died while having sex with her.

Finally, Nadinchen and Jost have to give up the sauna. Together with their guests they meet for a sauna in the country in a truck that has been converted into a sauna. Maybe a future business idea - the sauna on wheels?

Reviews

“A tragicomic description of the state of urban middle-class existences as well as an appealing mixture of loosely staged comedy and thoughtful chamber play. Above all, a sympathetic film in terms of acting. "

“What at first glance seems a bit clunky, turns out to be a finely spun, realistic tragic comedy that looks deeply into the hearts of its great characters with a loving gaze and discovers that there is not only German gloom, but above all a lot of humor and There is warmth, optimism and courage to live. If anything can save us at all, the film seems to convey, then it is not large-scale reform programs and full-bodied announcements, but the normal characteristics of the "little people" who fail again and again with so much charm and get up again and again. A mercilessly funny and true commentary on the state of an entire nation, which apparently is really in a headlock. "
