In Berlin 10/16/89 - 11/4/89 is a documentary film by several directors at the DEFA studio for documentary films from 1990.
action
After the brutal use of police and security forces in Berlin on October 7th and 8th, 1989 , the population also revolted in the capital. This documentary by several directors and cameramen of the DEFA studio for documentary films tries to give an impression of the time up to November 4th, 1989. The film only lets the recordings speak for themselves, without any comment, which can be seen in the following order:
- Meeting of opposition members in the Gethsemane Church in Berlin .
- This is followed by photographs of the attacks by the People's Police and civil security forces.
- A young man reports in a meeting about the development and the course of a demonstration .
- In a cultural area, many people watch Egon Krenz's inaugural speech on television after he was elected successor to Erich Honecker . Loud laughter often breaks out during this speech.
- A discussion about the election of Egon Krenz is being held on the street.
- A demonstration leads past the People's Chamber of the GDR and the State Council building .
- Five young men report on how they were brought in on October 8, 1989.
- Susanne Boeden reports on her arrest on October 8th, her release after 26 hours and her conclusions. The reason for the arrest was the affixing of three DIN-A5 slips of paper with content critical of the GDR to house doors.
- Report on the trial at the criminal chamber of the Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg district court against Susanne Boeden on charges of public degradation. Ms. Boeden was acquitted on the basis of an amnesty and left the GDR on November 14, 1989.
- Statements before the independent commission of inquiry on the events on October 7th and 8th, 1989 in Berlin
- Statements by Gregor Gysis on the rule of law
- Günter Schabowski discussed with the participants of an unapproved demonstration.
- Recordings of a human chain in Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and Alexanderplatz from a moving car.
- During the protest march to Alexanderplatz, Käthe Reichel and Peter Reusse also speak in front of the camera.
- An excerpt from the speech by Steffie Spira will be shown from the final rally on Alexanderplatz .
