Indira Varma (born May 14, 1973 in Bath , Somerset ) is a British actress of Indian and Swiss origin . Success she gained through television appearances and movie roles, including Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love , Bride and Prejudice and the - in the English speaking - very successful drama - television series Rome .

Life

Varma is the daughter of an Indian father and a Swiss mother. She made her first acting experiences at the Musical Youth Theater Company (MYTC), a theater in Bath, and later (1992 to 1995) at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), one of the most famous drama schools.

Varma's career began in 1996 with the film Kamasutra: A Tale of Love in Bollywood . Since the government at the time would have indexed the film because of the controversial content, the film was originally released under the name Maya & Tara . After her role in the film, which received an Independent Spirit Award , there was great interest in her acting talent from the film industry: within ten years she starred in over 20 films from film production facilities in India, Great Britain and Germany .

Varma finally gained great fame through her roles in the series Attachments as Sasha , in Rome as Niobe and in Game of Thrones as Ellaria Sand .
