Ingrid Gross

Ingrid Gross (born August 11, 1924 in Flensburg ) is a German local politician ( CDU ), who in 1978 was the first woman to be appointed mayor of the city of Flensburg.

Life and work

Gross graduated from the Auguste Viktoria School in Flensburg in 1942 . She then went to a commercial school in Hamburg , then worked in the Reich Labor Service and as a commercial clerk at a shipping company in Flensburg. In 1944 she was drafted into the German Red Cross and worked as an operating room nurse until 1946 .

Political career

In 1966 Gross joined the CDU , where from 1968 she was a board member of the CDU district association in Flensburg and chairwoman of the CDU women's association. From 1970 she was councilor in the council of the city of Flensburg. From 1974 to 1978 and from 1986 she was an honorary city councilor.

The council elected Gross on April 13, 1978 with 24 of 43 votes to be the city ​​president , which was the first time a woman was appointed to the presidium of the Flensburg council. During her first term of office, the Danish Queen Margrethe II made a state visit to Flensburg and southern Schleswig , when the Ellund border crossing on the federal motorway 7 was opened on June 13, 1978 and Margrethe II and her husband Prince Henrik of Denmark as well in the Flensburg town hall the Federal President Walter Scheel signed the Golden Book of the city of Flensburg. From 1978, Gross was a board member of the German Border Association and from 1984 a board member of the Society for Flensburg City History .

Awards

In 1980, Gross received the Freiherr vom Stein commemorative medal . On November 25, 1982, the 294th USA Artillery Group stationed in the Briesen barracks in Flensburg- Weiche named Ingrid Gross as “Partner in Peace” . In 1986 she received the certificate of merit of the KPV ( Communal Political Association of the CDU ) and the Great Cross of Merit .
