history

The Institutum Sapientiæ was founded on July 4th 1983 in the diocese of Anápolis after an audience granted to the angel work by Pope John Paul II . The first rector was the moral theologian Ingo Dollinger , who was also pastor of Petersdorf - Alsmoos in the diocese of Augsburg . The plan to open a branch of the institute in the Kartause Gaming in Austria on April 1, 1987 , failed due to the resistance of the St. Pölten diocesan bishop Franz Žak .

In May 1988 there was a robbery on the branch in Anápolis, in which the robbers fell into the hands of large amounts of cash and gold as well as a pistol from the adjacent monastery of the Cross . The Engelwerk admitted that the attack had taken place, but stated that the amount of loot stated in a report by journalist Margit Pieber was completely wrong.

From 1983 to 1996, 60 seminarians trained in the institute received their priestly ordinations . On November 12, 1988, the Institutum Sapientiæ was granted university status by a decree of the Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education .
