Manuel Pestana Filho

Manuel Pestana Filho (born April 27, 1928 in Santos ; † January 8, 2011 ibid), also written Manoel Pestana Filho , was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Anápolis .

Life

Manuel Pestana Filho studied philosophy from 1946 to 1948 at the seminary in Ipiranga, São Paulo, and from 1949 to 1953 theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He received in the October 5, 1952 Rome , the ordination .

From 1953 to 1959 he was chaplain of St. Vincent Martyr in Santos. He was Professor (1955–1971) and Director (1960–1971) of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Literature of Santos and Professor (1972–1978) and Director of the ECSC (1974–1978) of the Catholic University of Petrópolis and Professor ( 1974–1978) 1978) of philosophy courses in Sao Bento Monastery, Rio de Janeiro.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Anápolis in 1978 . He received his episcopal consecration on February 18, 1979 in Santos Archbishop Carmine Rocco , Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil; Co- consecrators were David Picão , Bishop of Santos , and Manoel Pedro da Cunha Cintra , Bishop of Petrópolis . His motto was "In Te Projectus".

Pestana Filho also taught at the diocesan seminary and at the Engelwerk University , the Institutum Sapientiæ in the monastery of the Canon Regulars of the Holy Cross , as well as professor at the Philosophical Faculty of the Archangel Michael in Anápolis and at the Catholic Institute for Theology Thomas Aquinas in Anápolis .

Pope John Paul II granted his age-related resignation in 2004.
