The Diocese of Petrópolis ( lat. : Dioecesis Petropolitanus ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Petrópolis in the state of Rio de Janeiro .
history
The diocese Petrópolis was on April 13, 1946 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Pastoralis qua urgemur from cessions of territory from the dioceses of Barra do Piraí and Niterói and subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan diocese. On March 26, 1960, the diocese Petrópolis gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the diocese Nova Friburgo . The diocese of Petrópolis was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Niterói as a suffragan on March 26, 1960. On February 15, 1964, the diocese of Petrópolis gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Floresta . Another assignment of territory took place on October 11, 1980 to establish the diocese of Duque de Caxias .
