history

The diocese of Duque de Caxias was established on October 11, 1980 by Pope John Paul II from ceding territories from the dioceses of Nova Iguaçu and Petrópolis and subordinated to the archbishopric of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan .
