Intermission is the title of the band Dio's first live album , released in 1986 . It was released in the form of an EP and was released on record , CD and music cassette .
background
The band Dio had released their third studio album Sacred Heart in 1985 , the recording of which had caused initial tensions within the band. The tour for this album began on August 13, 1985 at Oakwood Lake Amphitheater in Manteca , Rough Cutt played as support act until December 8, 1985 and, from December 28, 1985, Yngwie F. Malmsteen's Rising Force accompanied the band. The concert, held at the San Diego Sports Arena , San Diego on December 6, 1985 , was taped and later selected for publication.
During the tour break, guitarist Vivian Campbell , who had repeatedly criticized Ronnie James Dio for not keeping promises to pay the band members, was in fact fired. He was sent a new contract while on vacation in Ireland, which guaranteed him a slightly higher salary, but which should be signed by the management within 48 hours.
The tour continued in Europe from April 14, 1986 , the position of Campbell was taken over by the American guitarist Craig Goldy . Goldy came from the band Giuffria and had previously been guitarist for Rough Cutt. He was given the task of re-recording all of the rhythm guitars played on the stage by Campbell in the studio for the planned live album . Campbell's solos, however, were retained and could be heard on intermission .
Goldy was given the opportunity to introduce himself to the buyers of the album, so to speak. For this purpose, the track Time to Burn was recorded in the studio, which he had written with bassist Jimmy Bain , keyboardist Claude Schnell and drummer Vinnie Appice .
