The International Union of Notaries (UINL, French: Union Internationale du Notariat ) (formerly: International Union of Latin Notaries ) is an international organization based in Rome . It unites professional notarial organizations from countries whose civil legal systems are usually of the continental European type and which know a Latin notarial system derived from Roman law . As a non-governmental organization , it pursues the goal of coordinating and supporting cooperation between notaries worldwide and promoting, coordinating and developing notarial activities on an international level. This is intended to achieve close cross-border cooperation between the notaries' offices and ensure their independence so that the notaries are better able to serve society. The UINL represents the entirety of the Latin notariats, whose members are lawyers and exercise a public office in the field of preventive administration of justice.

The UINL was founded on October 2, 1948 on the occasion of the First International Congress of the Latin Notary's Office in Buenos Aires, initially on an informal level. The founding was then formally followed in 1950 at the follow-up congress in Madrid .
