Interzonal tournament Genting Highlands 1990

The 1990 women's interzonal tournament in Genting Highlands was used to identify three other participants in the candidate competitions for the 1991 women's world chess championship . The tournament took place in June and July 1990 at the Genting Highlands Resort near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur .

Playoff

The players with equal points in 3rd and 4th place immediately played a playoff for the last free place in the candidates tournament. Since Alisa Marić brought the better Sonneborn-Berger rating, a 3-3 draw should be enough for her. Therefore, the competition could be ended prematurely when she had reached three points.
