Playoff

A playoff was necessary for places 2 and 3, which was held in Tbilisi in September 1987 . The three players each played against each other twice. Ex-world champion Gaprindashvili won with 3 points ahead of Levitina (2½ points). Both qualified for the Candidates Tournament, while Eliška Klímová-Richtrová was eliminated with half a point.
