Iosif "Peci" Petschovski or - Hungarian - Perényi József (born July 2, 1921 in Timişoara , Timiş district , † October 6, 1968 in Arad ) was a Romanian and Hungarian football player and coach . He played a total of 350 games in the Hungarian Hungarian National Championship and the Romanian Divizia A . He also took part in the 1952 Olympic Games .

Life

Iosif Petschovski was born in Timișoara in 1921 . His father came from Bohemia , his mother from the Banat . In 1934, at the age of 13, he began playing football for the Chinezul Timișoara youth team after being spotted by the team's Austrian coach.

Petschovski began his career at his hometown club Chinezul Timișoara . In 1937 he came there in the first team that played in Divizia B at the time . In 1940 he was given the opportunity to join local rivals CAMT in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , where it was used for the first time on June 2, 1940. In 1941 he moved to the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság to Nagyváradi AC , which played there since the Second Vienna Arbitration . In Nagyvárad he was able to win the Hungarian championship in 1944 . Then Petschovski moved to league rivals Kolozsvári AC .

After the war , Petschovski moved to ITA Arad , one of the most successful Romanian teams of the 1940s and 1950s. In Arad he was able to win the Romanian championship in 1947 , 1948 and 1950 and the Romanian cup in 1948 . He was banned for three months in the autumn of 1947 because he had bet on the opponent in the run-up to an international match against Poland on July 19, 1947.

Before the start of the 1952 season , Petschovski left Arad and moved to league rivals CCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest). Also in Bucharest, Petschovski was able to expand his collection of titles and helped his team to win the championships in 1952 and 1953 and to another cup success .

After three years in Bucharest, Pechovski returned to Arad. However, the club was unable to build on its earlier successes and only placed itself in the middle of the table in the following years. He ended his career in 1961.

During his time at Nagyváradi AC Petschovski took on Hungarian citizenship and played three times for the Hungarian national football team between 1942 and 1943 under the name Perényi József . He made his debut on November 1, 1942 against Switzerland .

After he returned to Romania after the end of the war , he came between 1945 and 1958 on 32 missions for the Romanian national football team , whose captain he was several times. He made his debut on September 30, 1945 against his former team from Hungary. In 1952, Petschovski was in the squad for the football tournament of the Olympic Games in Helsinki and was used in the game against the eventual Olympic champion Hungary.

There is a statue of Pechovski in front of the UTA Arad stadium .

Petschovski could play any position. Even as a goalkeeper , he ran in a championship game against Gaz Metan Mediaş .
