Irene Blecker Rosenfeld (* 3. May 1953 as Irene Blecker in New York ) is an American manager and since 2006 CEO of mondelēz international . Forbes listed her as the tenth most powerful woman in the world in October 2011 .

Rosenfeld grew up on Long Island as the child of an accountant and a housewife whose Jewish parents immigrated from Germany. Her paternal grandparents were Romanian Jews, those on her mother's side German Jews. She graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in psychology . She also obtained a Master of Science degree in Business Administration and a PhD in Marketing and Statistics .

Rosenfeld got her first job at the advertising agency Dancer Fitzgerald Sample in New York. In 1981 she started at General Foods as a market researcher . She worked her way up as a product manager until the group was bought by the tobacco company Philip Morris in 1985 and merged with Kraft in 1995. Rosenfeld, meanwhile head of the beverages division at General Foods, was then entrusted with the management of the Canadian business of the new food giant. Her responsibilities then extended to Mexico, Puerto Rico, and eventually the entire North American portion of Kraft in the ensuing period. An important milestone was the takeover of the biscuit manufacturer Nabisco in 2000.

In 2004 Rosenfeld moved to the PepsiCo group's smaller food producer Frito-Lay as managing director . After her return to Kraft, she took up her position as managing director and chairwoman of the board on June 26, 2006. At the beginning of 2007, she completed the separation from Altria that had been in preparation for years .

In 2009 she convinced the Kraft Board to sell the American frozen pizza business to its competitor Nestlé .

With the acquisition of the British chocolate manufacturer Cadbury at the beginning of 2010, Kraft Foods under Irene Rosenfeld succeeded in becoming the largest chocolate manufacturer in the world. Since July 2011, she had developed a plan to place the North American grocery store on the stock exchange under the name Kraft Foods . The international grocery store, including the confectionery, is listed on the stock exchange as a start-up with the name Mondelez . From October 1, 2012, Irene Rosenfeld changed to the chairmanship of the newly founded Mondelēz International, which was spun off from Kraft Foods . CEO and Chair Irene Rosenfeld stepped down as Chief Executive in November 2017 and went into retirement. She was succeeded by Dirk Van de Put , the former President and CEO of McCain Foods .

Irene Rosenfeld has two grown daughters from her marriage to Philip Rosenfeld, who died in 1995. She is married to the investment banker Richard Illgen. She lives in Chicago on Lake Michigan.
