Irina Witaljewna Potejewa ( Russian Ирина Витальевна Потеева ; born January 25, 1986 in Fargʻona , Soviet Union ) is a Russian boxer . In 2007 she became European amateur champion in the weight class up to 66 kg body weight (KG)

Career

Irina Witaljewna Potejewa was born in Fargʻona in what was then the Uzbek Socialist Soviet Republic . She spent her childhood in Verkhnyaya Tura , in Sverdlovsk Oblast . Potejewa started boxing in her youth and joined the Russian army at the age of 18. She is a member of an army sports club and is trained by AS Malyshev and AW Meliukov.

In 2006, at the age of twenty, she became the first Russian champion in the weight class up to 66 kg. In the same year she had her first international appearance at the Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul and won this tournament with victories over Diana Biljalowa, Kazakhstan , Anna Ingman , Sweden and Lesja Koslan, Ukraine . After this successful test, she was used at the 2006 European Championships in Warsaw , where she won victories over Anna Ingman and Nurcan Carkici from Turkey in the weight class up to 66 kg . In the semifinals, however, she lost to French Aya Cissoko just on points (9:12) and therefore finished third. She started two months later at the Women's World Cup in New Delhi in the same weight class, but disappointed a bit there, because she lost in the round of 16 against Marichelle de Jong from the Netherlands on points (22:25) and was therefore only 9th .

In 2007 Irina Potejewa was again Russian champion in the weight class up to 66 kg with victories over Inna Edlinskaja (31: 7) and Alisia Klimina (abandoned in the 2nd round). In 2007 she won again at the Ahmet Comert tournament and came in the final battle to a remarkable point victory (18:10) over the reigning world champion Mary Spencer from Canada . It also impressed at the 2007 European Championships in Vejle / Denmark . There she defeated Nikolina Orlovic, Croatia (9: 1), Larissa Rosu, Romania (10: 2), Marichelle de Jong (3: 2) and Olivia Luczak , Poland (12: 1) each on points and thus became European champion.

In 2008 Irina Potejewa won the Russian championship in the class up to 66 kg for the third time with victories over Olga Scharkowa, Inna Sagaidakowskaja and Elene Bystrowa. At the Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul, she won again, beating u. a. the strong Chinese Yang Tingting and the former world champion Ariane Fortin from Canada. At the 2008 World Cup in Ningbo / China, she again defeated Marichelle de Jong, but this time lost to Mary Spencer, who just won 8: 6 points in this rematch in the quarterfinals. For Irina Potejewa only the 5th place remained.

At the Russian championship in 2009 she was unbeatable in the welterweight class and won again the title with a superior point win over Inna Sagaidakowskaja (20: 1). At the European Championships this year in Nikolajew / Ukraine she was disappointed again, because she lost in the quarter-finals to the Norwegian Lotte Lien , who she had clearly scored at the 2008 Witch tournament in Pécs / Hungary, just under points (1 : 2) and therefore had to be content with 5th place again.

In 2010 Irina Potejewa suffered a defeat at the Russian championship in the welterweight class in the semifinals against Elena Vystropova, which was extremely narrow with 11:12 points, but blocked her way to this year's world championship in Bridgeport / Barbados .

In 2011 she was unable to participate in the Russian championship due to an injury. She was still used at the European Championships in Rotterdam , but came there only to a point win over Martina Jindrowa from the Czech Republic (16: 7). In the quarterfinals she lost to Katarzyna Furmaniak from Poland on points (6:12), which she eliminated and finished in 5th place.

  • Welter weight, up to 69 kg body weight
  • up to 2008 there were up to 15 weight classes for women, in 2009 the weight classes for women were largely aligned with those for men (10 weight classes each) so that the names could also be adopted
