The Isla Magdalena National Park (Spanish Parque Nacional Isla Magdalena ) is a 1576 km² area in the south of Chile ( Región de Aysén ) that was declared a nature reserve in 1967 . It is located on the Magdalen Island ( Isla Magdalena ) and was declared a national park in 1983.

The island lies east of the Moraleda Canal, which separates it from the archipelago of the Chonos Archipelago , and is itself separated from the mainland by the Puyuguapi Canal to the south and east and the Janaf Canal to the north. The most important place on the island is Puerto Gaviato south of the national park. In addition to Isla Magdalena , a number of smaller islands belong to the national park, the largest of which is Isla Atilio in the north.

The national park is mainly characterized by the variety of sea birds (including penguins and cormorants ) and its untouched vegetation, which is typical of the temperate and cold coastal climate in the Chilean part of Patagonia . The island is home to the largest penguin colonies in southern Chile, including an estimated 60,000 breeding pairs of Magellanic penguins . The climate of Isla Magdalena has an annual average temperature of 6 to 8 ° C and the exceptionally large amount of precipitation of around 4000 mm per year.

The park can only be reached by sea from the ports of Puerto Cisnes or Puerto Puyuhuapi . Except for the harbor at the southern tip, there is no infrastructure on the island, and there are no staff in the park.
