It's a Heartache is a song that Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler released as a single in 1977 and that also appeared on her second studio album, Natural Force , in 1978 . Tyler's version physically sold more than six million copies.

The soft rock song was written by Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe, then Tyler's managers, and produced by David Mackay .

reception

Tyler's version received positive reviews from music critics. When it was released, Chicago Tribune 's Lynn Van Martre compared Tyler's voice to Rod Stewart , who later covered the song. The song peaked at number three in the United States and number four in the United Kingdom . In Germany the single came in second, in Austria and Switzerland in third place. The song was also a number one hit in several countries including Australia , Canada , France , Finland , Norway and Sweden . Tyler re-recorded the song several times, including as a bilingual duet with French singer Kareen Antonn in 2004 entitled Si tout s'arrête (It's a Heartache)

Version by Wencke Myhre

In 1978, Wencke Myhre's version with the title Laß mein Knie, Joe became popular in Germany; it reached number 16 on the charts and was placed for twelve weeks. The German text is from Wolfgang Hofer .

Wencke Myhre sang the song twice in the ZDF hit parade , at a time when it was organized according to sales figures. The song was first placed in 15th place on April 3, 1978, but Myhre was not present. Wencke Myhre sang the song on May 1 and May 29, 1978 (place four), on June 26, 1978 (place ninth) she was again out of the studio. Wencke Myhre was also a guest on the show disco with It's a Heartache on March 20, 1978, a month or an edition after Bonnie Tyler.

In the ZDF show 50 years of the ZDF hit parade on April 27, 2019, Bonnie Tyler and Wencke Myhre sang a joint German-English version.

More cover versions

There are numerous cover versions, including Juice Newton 1978, which also hit the charts. David Johansen of the New York Dolls released a live version. Dave & Sugar released a country rock version in 1981. There are other cover versions of:
