Jörg Bofinger (archaeologist)

Jörg Bofinger (born December 24, 1967 in Stuttgart - Bad Cannstatt ) is a German prehistorian and monument conservator . He made a contribution to the Celtic prince seat of Heuneburg in the district of Sigmaringen .

Life

Jörg Bofinger grew up in Stuttgart- Luginsland and attended the Wirtemberg-Gymnasium in Stuttgart- Untertürkheim after primary school . In May 1987 he graduated from high school. He did his military service between July 1987 and October 1988 in Mengen and Klosterlechfeld .

In the winter semester of 1988/89, Bofinger began studying prehistory as a major, classical archeology , prehistory , anthropology and geology at the University of Tübingen . In the winter semester 1991/92 and the summer semester 1992 he completed a semester abroad at the Université de Provence in Aix-en-Provence , supported by an Erasmus grant from the European Union. During the same period of time there is participation in excavations and prospecting projects. In September 1994 he completed his main studies in the subjects of Prehistory and Early History, Classical Archeology and Geology with a Magister Artium . His master's thesis on “ Middle Neolithic settlement remains of Rottenburg a. N. - 'Lindele'. The excavations 1984 to 1989 ”was supervised by Franz Fischer and Hartmann Reim . From 1996 he did his doctorate at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory of the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen. His dissertation to obtain a doctorate dealt with the " investigations into the Neolithic settlement history of the Upper Gäus ". His supervisors were Manfred Eggert and Hartmann Reim. The work, which he completed with magna cum laude , was supported between October 1998 and May 2000 by a grant from the state graduate support.

After receiving his doctorate and defending it in December 2000, he worked at the Sigmaringen district office from February to July 2001. This six-month engagement dealt with LEADER II funding.

• From September 1994: Collaboration and management in numerous excavation projects in the state of Baden-Württemberg and in southern France. Tutoring contracts at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory of the University as a supervisor for IT questions at the institute and supervision of courses.
• February - July 2001: Organization of the international congress “Culture and Tourism in Rural Areas of Europe”. In cooperation with the Leader II project (Upper Swabia Action Group), the Sigmaringen District Office and the State Agency for Rural Development, Schwäbisch Gmünd.
• August 2001 - July 2003: Scientific traineeship in the archaeological monument preservation department of the Baden-Württemberg State Monuments Office
• July 2003 - March 2004: Temporary contract with the State Monuments Office to carry out various scientific projects (exhibitions, publication projects and preparation of research in the DFG's priority program on the early Celtic princes' seats, especially the Heuneburg project).
• April 2004 - March 2006: Scientific excavation manager of the excavations in the area of ​​the bailey of the Heuneburg as part of the DFG priority program SPP 1171 "Centralization and Urbanization" (implementation of the project: Regional Council Stuttgart, State Office for Monument Preservation Baden-Württemberg).

Since April 2006 he has been a scientific advisor for key excavations and linear projects at the State Office for Monument Preservation in the Stuttgart Regional Council Ref. 115, since July 2008 he has been head of the department for linear projects, digital excavation technology and advanced training for excavation technicians, Ref. 115, since January 2009 he Head of Section 84. Bofinger is married and lives in Esslingen am Neckar .
