Life
After graduating from high school, Hartmann did community service in Paderborn . From 1997 he studied graphic design at the Münster University of Applied Sciences with Marcus Herrenberger , but has not yet finished his studies. During his studies he came into contact with illustration . He produced his first book illustrations for publishers from 1999, including for school books . Since 2002 he has published children's books for various German-language publishers. He worked for the Westermann printing and publishing group as well as for Coppenrath Verlag .
In 2007 the comic album Nostradamus was published by Egmont Ehapa Verlag , which Hartmann illustrated. Ray O. Nolan contributed the text. In 2009 he received an “Award for Excellence” for his work at the Bologna International Children's Book Fair , followed by exhibition participation in Italy, Korea and Japan.
On the initiative of Marcus Herrenberger , Hartmann began making a comic about the private detective Wilsberg, created by Jürgen Kehrer, during his studies . The television series Wilsberg is also based on his novels . After twelve years of work, the 80-page Wilsberg comic was published by Carlsen Verlag in summer 2012 . In the run-up, both Leonard Lansink , the main actor of the Wilsberg television crime thriller, and Jürgen Kehrer, author of the Wilsberg novels, inspected the comic.
Hartmann lives in Münster, Westphalia, and works there in his own studio in the Hansaviertel .
Since 2006 he has been running a gallery in Münster, where he only offers his own work.
