Jewish community of Gochsheim

The Jewish community in Gochsheim , a district of the Kraichtal community in the Karlsruhe district ( Baden-Württemberg ), was probably founded in the 15th and 16th centuries. Century and existed until the 1870s.

Jews are handed down to Gochsheim for the first time in 1427 and then again in 1524/25. In 1643 Matthäus Merian wrote in his Topographia Sueviae zu Gochsheim: “There are many Jews there”.

In 1769 the highest number of Jewish residents was reached with 67 people. Due to emigration and emigration, the number of Jewish residents fell sharply in the first half of the 19th century. That is why the Jews still living in Gochsheim were assigned to the Jewish community in Bauerbach . In 1826 there were still 27 Jewish residents, 17 in 1864 and five in 1871. In 1875 there were no longer any Jews living in Gochsheim.
