Jürgen Markowitz

Jürgen Markowitz (* 1942 ) is a German sociologist .

Life and work

Markowitz completed training as an electrician and radio and television technician , which he completed in 1959 and 1962 with the journeyman's examination. After graduating from high school in 1965, he began studying sociology at the Ruhr University in Bochum , graduating in 1973 with a diploma.

He then completed a traineeship at the Neue Rhein- / Neue Ruhr-Zeitung (NRZ) in Essen and Düsseldorf . In 1978 he received his doctorate from the sociologist Niklas Luhmann at the University of Bielefeld , in 1985 he completed his habilitation in Bielefeld and was then a private lecturer there until 1992 . At the same time, he took on visiting professorships and deputy professorships at the University of Essen , the University of St. Gallen , the University of Vienna , the University of Witten-Herdecke , the University of Potsdam and the Administration and Business Academy of Hesse. From 1989 to 1993 he also worked as a freelancer in the areas of communication training, organizational development and management consulting. From 1993 to 2007 Markowitz was Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Sociology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Markowitz is a member of the SPD . He is married and has two children. He lives in Bottrop-Kirchhellen .
