James Peter Sartain (born June 6, 1952 in Memphis , Tennessee , United States ) is an American Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop Emeritus of Seattle .

Life

James Peter Sartain was ordained a priest on July 15, 1978 .

Pope John Paul II named him Bishop of Little Rock on January 4, 2000 . The Archbishop of Oklahoma City , Eusebius Joseph Beltran , donated him episcopal ordination on March 6 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were James Terry Steib SVD , Bishop of Memphis , and Andrew Joseph McDonald , Ex-Bishop of Little Rock. As a motto he chose Of You My Heart Has Spoken .

On May 16, 2006 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Joliet, Illinois , and inducted into office on June 27 of that year. He was named Archbishop of Seattle on September 16, 2010 and inducted into office on December 1 of the same year.

On April 29, 2019 he received a coadjutor with the right of succession in Paul Dennis Etienne . Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on September 3, 2019.
