J1 Villena
The J1 Villena (officially Trofeo Juan Carlos Ferrero ) is a world junior tennis tournament that has been held annually since 2002 in April in the Spanish city of Villena on a clay court by the International Tennis Federation . It belongs to the second highest tournament category G1 and is the most important junior tennis tournament in the country. The venue is the Juan Carlos Ferrero - Equelite Sport Academy
history
In 2002, the competition was initially played on hard court as Campeonatos Internacionales Junior de Tenis de la Comunidad Valenciana , then the playing surface changed several times between clay and hard courts, before the final decision on clay in 2007. In 2013, it was renamed Trofeo Juan Carlos Ferrero , which was accompanied by an upgrade of the tournament to the G1 category.
Winners list
The competition is now considered an internationally important preparatory tournament for the junior competitions of the French Open and is therefore top-class. While the athletes from Spain dominated the boys recently, the field is even among the girls.
